Date: 2026-10-13
Dear ______________________________:
This letter confirms that Attorney Robert L. Root III, through Felon Justice, will represent you in the limited matter described below. Felon Justice is the name through which Attorney Root provides these services; Attorney Root is the lawyer responsible for your representation. The attorney-client relationship for this matter begins when this letter is signed by both you and Attorney Root, subject to completion of a conflict check and any other legally required intake review. Please review and sign below if you agree.
Your Selected Service
Pathway Consultation — $500.00
Up to two hours of attorney consultation focused on your state and federal firearm-rights path, threshold questions, and a practical roadmap.
- Up to 2 hours of attorney consultation
- State and federal restoration-path analysis
- Review of the conviction, sentence completion, current residence, and known barriers
- Answers to threshold questions and a recommended next-step roadmap
- Identification of whether Premium Federal Restoration, Ultimate Federal Restoration, or State Review Only appears to fit
- $500 credited toward Premium Federal Restoration or Ultimate Federal Restoration if a later engagement is accepted
Scope of Services
1.- The representation is limited to up to two hours of attorney consultation concerning your conviction, sentence, current residence, existing relief, firearm-rights goal, and the state and federal paths that may be available. The service includes threshold issue spotting, discussion of timing and known barriers, answers to reasonable questions within the consultation, and a practical recommendation about whether additional federal work, a state-only remedy, or another next step appears appropriate based on the information you provide.
2.- This service does not include acquiring records for you, preparing or completing a federal or state application, detailed review of a completed federal application, drafting a personal narrative or advocacy submission, preparing character references, filing or submitting an application, routine post-submission monitoring, litigation, judicial review, appeal, administrative hearing, expungement, pardon, clemency, or representation in a separate state proceeding. Those services require a separate written agreement if accepted. Neither we nor the government guarantee eligibility, a processing time, a favorable determination, or the removal of any federal or state firearms restriction. You must not acquire or possess a firearm or ammunition based solely on retaining us, purchasing a service, or preparing or filing an application.
Flat Fee and Expenses
3.- The fee for the entire limited scope stated in paragraph 1 is $500.00, payable in connection with this engagement. It is a flat fee, not a fee contingent on approval. It covers reasonable and ordinary services within the selected scope, regardless of time spent. The advance payment will be deposited in an attorney client trust account and transferred only as earned through performance of the agreed services. It is not nonrefundable or earned upon receipt. If the representation ends before completion, any unearned portion will be promptly refunded based on the reasonable value of services performed, subject to the prohibition on a clearly excessive fee. For purposes of accounting for work completed upon early termination, Attorney Root's hourly rate is $350.00; this rate does not convert the agreed flat fee into hourly billing or permit charges above the flat fee for work within scope. We will provide an accounting on request and at termination. If Client later enters an accepted written engagement for Premium Federal Restoration or Ultimate Federal Restoration, the $500 paid for this Pathway Consultation will be credited toward the total flat fee for that later federal service. This credit does not itself create the later engagement and does not require the Firm to accept additional representation.
4.- The flat fee does not include government charges, record-retrieval charges, fingerprinting, certified copies, postage, or other third-party expenses. We will explain and obtain your authorization before incurring any such expense on your behalf; any advance for expenses will be safeguarded in trust and applied only when incurred. Additional legal work or fees require a new written agreement before that work begins.
Client Cooperation and Decisions
5.- You agree to provide complete and accurate information and requested records promptly, review any analysis, recommendations, application materials, or other work product provided to you for accuracy, and keep us informed of changes to your contact information or circumstances material to the matter. You decide whether to submit any application. We will not knowingly submit or assist in submitting false or misleading information. We will keep you reasonably informed about material developments within the selected scope, respond to reasonable requests for information, and explain matters sufficiently to permit informed decisions. Information relating to your representation will be protected as required by the rules of professional conduct, subject to applicable law and your authorization for disclosures needed to perform the selected service.
Completion and Termination
6.- Unless ended earlier, this limited representation concludes when the included attorney consultation and path analysis are complete and we provide the recommended next step. If you later enter an accepted Premium Federal Restoration or Ultimate Federal Restoration engagement, the $500 paid for Pathway Consultation will be credited toward the total flat fee for that later service. The credit does not obligate Attorney Root or Felon Justice to accept a later engagement and does not apply to a separate State Review Only matter unless expressly agreed in writing. You may discharge Attorney Root at any time. Attorney Root may withdraw only as permitted by applicable professional-conduct rules, with reasonable notice and steps reasonably practicable to protect your interests. On termination, we will promptly provide papers and property to which you are entitled, account for funds, and refund any unearned advance fee. Nothing in this letter limits any duty imposed by applicable professional-conduct rules.
If these terms are acceptable, please sign and return a copy of this letter.
Sincerely,
Felon Justice
